Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What time frame can I expect for completing my landscape project?

The time needed from the initial consultation to design drawings to project completion can vary from six weeks to six months, or sometimes more for larger projects.

The project size, complexity and the time of year the project is initiated are the key variables for your time frame. Projects designed and planned during late fall/winter are the first to be completed in the spring.

Now is always the best time to start the process.

Q: What kind of warranties do you offer on your plants?

Balcones Landscaping warrants, with full replacement, all shrubs and plants it installs for six months. All trees are warranted for one year. Our Landscape Installation Contract contains a full description of all warranties.

Q: Why do I need a landscape design? Can't I just tell you what I want?

For the sake of accurate cost estimates, accountability for all parties involved and to ensure long-term success of the landscape, a well researched and constructed design is integral to a landscape project regardless of size.

Balcones Landscaping requires a professionally produced design to offer a formal cost estimate and bid on all landscape projects.

Q: How much does it cost for a landscape design?

Our landscape designers bill out at $60 per hour. A typical residential design requires 6 to 10 hours of site work, research time, meetings with you and drafting of the final plan. Plans involving retaining walls, re-grading of the property, drainage issues or complex hardscape elements may take longer to create.

Q: How much does it cost for a typical landscape installation?

There really is no “typical” project in terms of cost. Ultimately the cost is driven by what you want to accomplish and the budget limitations, if any, you want to set.

We like to compare it to the process of buying a new home and all the options that must be considered: location, lot size, number of stories, amenities, square footage, etc. How much does a new home cost?

The cost comes down to matching what you really want to achieve with what you are willing to invest. By deciding what you are willing to invest, you can then focus on the particulars.

Balcones Landscaping’s job is to help you quickly identify the budget range required for your ideal project, understand your needs and goals, then begin the process of guiding you through the design phase in such a way that your investment is maximized.
